Kate, Sally (our maltese) and I decided to do a little fishing last night since it had been a while since either of us had gotten out. The weather was beautiful, the sunset was spectacular, the lake was crowded, and the fishing was terrible. I decided to fish a couple spots that I normally don’t fish since they were shielded from the nonstop 3 foot wakes being created by the multiple waterskiiers on the lake, and it proved to be a safe choice, but not a fruitful one.

I threw everything I had in my bag including senkos (wacky rigged and texas rigged), spinnerbaits, topwater, and jigs, but for 2.5 hours of fishing we only landed 5 fish, of which only 1 was a “keeper”. Total tally was 1 on a wacky rigged senko, 1 on a texas rigged senko, and 3 on a spinnerbait retrieved quickly across the surface. All fish were largemouth bass.

Overall we had fun even though the fish didn’t cooperate, and Sally enjoyed barking at everyone on the lake!

I am going to combine the last two days out on the lake into one since there wasn’t all that much fishing action… We were going to go tubing and waterskiing on Friday, but Buddy backed out, so with only one licensed operator Kate, Robbie, and Myself decided to go fishing for a little while. We got on the water at about 6:30pm and fished senkos over the submerged weeds on the north shore. We all landedd fish very quickly and we knew it was going to be a decent night.

The fish weren’t large but we caught quite a few and we didn’t have to race all over the lake to find them. In all we landed about 20-25 bass in the 2 hours we fished. None of the fish were real large, but it was still nice catching something. The largest was about 2lbs (Robbie got it on a senko). He wanted a picture of his “trophy” bass, so we snapped one with his phone. He thinks he looks like a fish model in the picture, you be the judge…

The next night we decided to try again and finally got everyone over for some skiing action… On the boat was Me, Kate, Erik, Jeff, Buddy, Robbie, and Jack. Out of everyone Erik was the only one to get up on the skis this day… Tubing is a different story, I could not be thrown, but everyone else took some good diggers.

Here are a couple shots from the day on the water:

Erik skiing:

Here is a shot of jeffs leg after hitting the water hard!

Once we were done abusing ourselves tubing and skiing we decided to rig up the poles and go out for some late night catfish… We tried stink bait nuggets, hotdogs, and night crawlers, but the only thing we caught was a buzz… By 11:30pm we called it a night.

I know this is a fishing site, but I had such a weird experience last night I just had to write about it.

The term not so good just about sums up our experience at the Prime Steakhouse in Torrington, CT last night. Kate and I both had a rough day at work, so we decided to go out for a drive and then get some dinner and a drink to unwind. We got in the car with the idea of going to red lobster in Torrington, but when we got there we found out it was now a 99 restaurant… Disappointed we moved on and went looking for something different.

Driving around Torrington we saw a place called Prime Steakhouse and decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was blah but we decided to stay anyway. The meals were pretty pricey (~$20-30 for steaks and $17-25 for chicken dishes), and they charged $2.50 to make a regular side salad a Cesar salad… We did get an order of calamari which was awesome, but that was about the only highlight.

Our waitress was very strange, and seemed oddly nervous and overly “helpful”. She read us the entire menu, and described how you should eat each of the entrees i.e. pasta is on the side so you can cut up you chicken smaller and then take as little or as much of the pasta as you want and put it with your chicken (no lie!). When we asked for some parmigiana she brought it over and explained that the spoon she gave us was to be used to take the grated cheese out of the bowl and put it on our meals…

She proceeded to stand over us and talk while we ate, we had to say thank you 8 times before she got the point to leave. I actually contemplated giving her an extra $20 tip just to leave us alone. Despite the crazy service and so-so food, we had a good time because we were in good company.

Recommendation: Stay away from Prime Steakhouse in Torrington, CT unless you like so-so food and creepy waitresses!!!
