Famous tv and movie chimp goes crazy; attacks and mauls two women and multiple cops in Stamford. The 200 pound chimp appearently went crazy and attacked its owner’s friend by “ripping her face off”. Then proceeded to attack its owner when she tried to help. The owner stabbed the chimp multiple times with a butcher knife but couldn’t bring it down. The cops arrived and ultimately shot the chimpanzee multiple times after being attacked. He even opened a police car door and tried to attack an officer inside.

Goliath groupers are giant fish that are on the endangered species list almost everywhere they are found cruising the sea floors. They have been actively sought out by sportfishermen looking for the thrill of catching a fish larger themselves. Up until now every giant grouper that was caught was called a goliath grouper. According to scientists equipped with genetic testing, not all goliath grouper are the same. They recently announced a new species of goliath grouper… Here is an excerpt from the live science article:

“For more than a century, ichthyologists have thought that Pacific and Atlantic goliath grouper were the same species,” said lead researcher Matthew Craig of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, “and the argument was settled before the widespread use of genetic techniques.”

The genetic results have shown that pacific goliath grouper, and atlantic goliath grouper posess a different set of DNA which implies that they were separated by what is modern day panama and evolved into completely different species in the goliath grouper family…

Here is a great picture of a man sized goliath grouper from live science…

So now that they will be called different species, will they both remain on the endangered species list?

Today Kate and I were supposed to go watch the final round of the bank of america championship at Nashawtuc Country Club, but the storms and heavy rains pushed the start time up 3 hours so it wasn’t worth driving all the way up to Boston. We decided on going out for breakfast and doing a little shopping instead, so we called a couple friends and went on a journey to IHOP on the berlin turnpike.

After eating way too many pancakes we went to stew leonards and did some grocery shopping. By the time were done the weather cleared and me and my buddy Erik decided to take the boat out and do a little fishing. Right around that time my mom and dad had called and asked if they could come up and fish from shore so I invited them to come out with us and they agreed.

We got out on the water around 530p and the wind was ripping from the south at about 20-25mph so fishing docks and shallow structure would be tough since our ski boat doesn’t have a trolling motor. I decided that anchoring south of submerged weed beds (6ft of water) and casting into the with senkos would be our best bet. It was a good choice. I landed a nice bass on my first cast and then everyone on the boat followed close there after. We stayed out for about 2 hours and landed about 25 fish in total. Most fish were 1-2lbs with a couple over 2 pounds.

Here are a few pics from our trip:

We didn’t get anything real big, but at least we had fun and the weather stayed nice…

Conditions:

Windy, partly cloudy, water temp 75 degrees, evening.
