I was sitting in the office today in between patients and my secretary came in and said to me, did you see the Montauk Monster pictures yet? Of course I had not, so I had to do a little research on the subject. After a few quick google searches, I found alot of information pertaining to a supposed monster-like creature that had washed up on the beaches of Montauk, Long Island, NY.
Here’s how the story goes: someone was walking in front of a restaurant when they spotted something dead on the beach, they went down to check it out and soon there was a crowd developing. The person snapped a quick photo and some guy came down and carted the creature off before anyone else could get a shot of it. The guy was “quoted” as saying he was going to mount this monster like creature on his wall…
Here is a shot of this infamous creature:
With this photo being “released” there has been a lot of speculation as to whether this is a hoax, or whether it is some new species yet to be discovered… Stories have ranged from this being an experiment that went wrong at the Montauk Government facility to a turtle without its shell. On the other spectrum, skeptics have called this a photoshopped viral marketing piece for a company, an x-files movie promotion, or something to promote a new tv show called plum tv.
Here is a short video from youtube that aired on CNN earlier this week:

My vote is that this is clearly a photoshopped monster - there is no size reference in the picture, there is only one shot of the monster, and the shadows appear to not match up. I bet we will see this hoax uncovered in the next couple days. What do you think? Leave me a comment below!

It’ a hoax, and it’s a movie prop puppet. Colin Davis who claims to have the monster remains is an actor and he was in Mamma Mia as a driver, give me a break!

Hahaha Colin Davis is not an actor he’s a 22 year old kid from Montauk. He graduated from East Hampton High School in ‘03. Nice try.

I stumbled across this a little late, but here goes:
It’s not a turtle. A turtle’s spine and ribs are fused to it’s shell. There’s not much left that looks like an animal without the shell. Oh, and turtles don’t have teeth.
I have no other information about it than what I can see in the picture and my knowledge of the anatomy of animals.
The skull is the wrong shape for a dog.
If I had to take a guess, based on the size of the sand particles and the shape of the skull and body, I’d go with maybe a house cat. It’s been in the water a while and most of it’s skin and hair has sloughed off, something has eaten it’s nose and lips and it’s a litle swolen. The upper teeth are still covered by skin/muscle and the lower teeth are exposed.
Given the condition, I could easily be wrong about what animal it is, but I don’t see any reason to think it’s anything other than an ordinary dead animal that’s been floating in the water a while. Everyday animals look very different than you might imagine without their fur and skin.

this is some BS. there is no way in the world this is real. it is just a crossbread of a house cat and racoon that was floating in the ocean for a month and landed on the beach with no hair left.

Wow, some of you guys amaze me! It is not a sea turtle without its shell because a turtle’s shell is fused to its body. It can’t be an animal without its fur because as far as I know, animals don’t have beaks. That only leaves a hoax, or unidentified species. I’m open to either one, but remember, just because we’re in the 21st century doesn’t mean we’ve discovered every animal out there. People, we’ve have got to keep a more open mind the new ideas and concepts, trust me, it will help you more in the long run!

I think this is a guarddog, specially bred you know like pit bulls but for real nasty work. The question is whom used to own it, who killed it and why did they dump it there? And did it kill someone and is it getting bred anymore? Since this is a matter for the police about the dangers of breeding dangerous animals, this would be a hoax because those women wouldn’t be so irresponsible as to keep this animal away from investigation or they should be brought to trial for being greedy and dangerous to caring about the public safety.

lol its a hoax. I have an open mind and I can believe if someone discovered something new but don’t you think we would have discovered something this big by now? If it is on a beach then we probably would have seen more of these in other places and/or at different times. After all it this can’t be the first time an animal was washed ashore that looked like this.

awhhh. it does look like a pit bull. it’s hair is gone because it’s been in the water for forever, and that’s the same reason it’s skin is bloated and gross. the skin actually came off the dog’s nose/mouth area, and if you look at photos of skeletons of dogs, that’s exactly what it looks like.
poor guy.

Its front legs are tied or so it seems to me. This means it had already encounters with humans, who seem to have beaten it cause of the bruses, or probably have abandoned it and it hit a couple of rocks, but these bruses happened while it was still alive. It looks so real, that I don`t believe it`s hoax. Even its facial features express the painful death it experienced. Whatever happened it was horrible.

you say that there is no size reference, but if you look at his shoulder there’s a little fly sitting there, witch means that its a pretty small “monster”
